How Meredith Mickelson is trading the runway life for the imperfect life of the silver screen.
Meredith Mickelson is navigating a significant new road in her career. She is shifting away from the highly controlled environment that is high fashion and embracing the unpredictability of acting. Modeling requires precision, and one must be composed and aware of every movement and angle to appease the camera. But acting demands the opposite: an actor must forget themselves completely and exist only within the world the creators have built.
This contrast between image and emotive forms is the thematic backdrop of Mickelson’s transition. After a decade in an image-centered industry, she has learned that while others’ opinions will always change, the foundation of a career and a successful life must lie in a sense of self, with a focus on values, relationships, and goals.

A major turning point came in Mickelson’s career when she worked on Ryan Murphy’s project, The Beauty. She had been “manifesting working with him for such a long time” that the role felt incredibly freeing to her, giving her permission to be “messy, emotional, and a little unpredictable.”
Her experience on the show let her utilize the skills she had been developing for years, helping her release the pressure behind always looking perfectly put together. The most interesting moments in acting happen, she finds, when you stop striving for perfection and instead live fully inside the character you’re portraying. This sudden liberation reinforced her belief that vulnerability is the source of an actor’s strongest performances.

Mickelson’s transition is not some speculative exploration but a disciplined, long-term commitment to a new career path. For the past six years, she has been consistently taking acting classes and one-on-one coaching sessions to grow her craft. When you commit to a new path, she feels, you often face scrutiny, but she believes that modeling gave her a strong beginning for the path she is on now, teaching her discipline and professionalism. If you show up prepared and committed, she explains, people will notice.
Her motivation in all of her ventures is personal loss. Acting was something she always loved but deemed out of reach until her brother, an actor himself, encouraged her to pursue it. His passing changed her perspective. She feels that her brother’s fearlessness moved into her, and that she is now carrying his encouragement with her.

Meredith Mickelson is deeply attracted to complex characters, in particular layered female roles. She is drawn to explore psychology, emotion, and transformation, and she is excited by directors who combine emotional depth with big, cinematic storytelling. Her dream collaborators include Greta Gerwig and Nancy Meyers, and she dreams of being part of immersive universes, such as those of Christopher Nolan, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Denis Villeneuve.
Her relationship with fashion has likewise evolved. Now, it’s a creative extension of her own storytelling, useful to express a mood or version of a character. Perhaps most profoundly, Mickelson’s definition of success has changed from simple external recognition to recognizing the strength in good health, the people she loves, and the power of telling a story.
